Eco Schools

Changing Behaviour with Games

Our collaborative games based learning explores the Eco-Schools Programme’s nine key environmental topics.

Our games change behaviours by putting simple, local actions into a wider perspective. The Eco-Schools topics are not treated separately. Instead, the class takes charge of a virtual community, where they can explore cause and effect. The games are played in the classroom on a single computer. The class is divided into teams that take on different roles in the game. They do not compete with each other; in fact, they need to work together to get a high score.

games-ED gets pupils working together, making decisions and debating issues. Most importantly they have fun while learning about an important subject.

The Games

Sustainaville  is a simulation of a virtual community.  The pupils play different roles such as local council, transport, health and housing.  They have to tackle issues such as environment, health, crime, economy, poverty and resource use. Can they transform the community?  They have three years in charge!

Learning Objectives:

The Climate Game

The game plays over a number of rounds (15-20 simulated years in the life of the community). Eight teams are responsible for reducing the community’s carbon footprint. They need to achieve this while at the same time keeping the lights on and making sure that the community remains a pleasant and economically vibrant place to live and work.

Learning Objectives:

pixelfountain (games-ED) is committed to reducing its impact on the planet. Our efforts go beyond the development and delivery of games on sustainable development, climate change and so on, we embed these principles into the way we work and operate.
